History
The church started in 1962 by Baptist Missionaries who were fleeing from the wars in Congo in the early 60’s. It later became the merging point between missionaries from the Southern Baptist Mission now called the International Mission Board and the Conservative Baptist Mission now called World Venture.
The church was reduced to small house churches during President Amin Ddada’s reign. Amin banned all the churches except the Anglican and the Roman Catholic Church. The church was restarted at St. John’s Ambulance immediately after the 1979 war which ousted Amin.
The church was initially led by American missionaries until Pastor John Ekudu took over as the first Ugandan Pastor. The church is currently led entirely by Ugandan Pastors.
The church is located at the South Western edge of Makerere University right in the middle of sub urban Kampala with all the various social and economic groupings giving it a unique opportunity to minister to people across the social strata.
We are a church that emphasizes the study of the Scriptures. We run small group Bible studies every Sunday and have done so through the years. We have partnership with various groups that promote the study of the Scriptures including Bible Study Fellowship which we have hosted for over 8 years. Bible Study Fellowship is internationally known for its focused and organized Bible teaching.
Over the years we have witnessed great changes in people who have gone through discipleship programs of the church. We are contributing to leadership development in the East African region and beyond through this ministry. Men and women who have gone through the ministry are found all over the world playing significant roles in society.
We invite you to a place where the Bible will be opened and taught with integrity
Church Philosophy
To fulfil the great commission as stated in Matthew 28: 19-20, through a holistic ministry based on our belief and obedience to the authority of the Holy Scriptures.
The church philosophy emphasizes three commitments:
1. A commitment to evangelism, which leads individuals to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
2. A commitment to discipleship of believers to lead them to full maturity in Christ, becoming involved in ministry as they discover their spiritual gifts.
3. A commitment to caring for persons’ spiritual, physical, emotional and social needs.
Membership
Members are encouraged to play an active role in the body life of the church in form of contributing their time, talent and or physical possessions depending on what God has entrusted them with.
There is an ongoing general call on members to play an active role in the area of discipleship. Every member is encouraged to disciple at least one or two other members in the church as this is bound to further strengthen the Church’s ministry and witness as a whole.
